BillSense helps you understand hospital bills and related documents. This page explains, in plain language, how we handle information when you use the service.
How long we keep information
Personal uploads and the reviews we generate for you are stored for 7 days, then permanently deleted from our servers as part of this educational service. Read-only demo cases may be kept longer so visitors can learn from an example—those are labelled clearly and are not your data.
Commercial use
BillSense is operated as a non‑monetized, educational initiative. We do not sell your documents, rent your contact details, or use your uploads for advertising profiles.
What you give us
- Files you upload (for example bills, lab reports, or discharge summaries) so we can extract text and prepare an educational review.
- Account details if you register—typically your name, email, and a password you choose.
- Technical data such as cookies needed to keep you signed in or, if you use the site without an account, a short‑lived cookie that ties a guest review to your browser.
How we use it
We use your uploads and account information only to operate BillSense: extract text, show explanations and suggested questions, and let you return to your reviews. We do not sell your documents. We do not use them for advertising profiles.
Retention
Uploaded files and generated reviews are stored on our servers for a period consistent with running the service and meeting legal or security needs. Exact retention periods may be updated here as the product matures—check this page from time to time.
Regulatory compliance & security
BillSense is built to HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance standards. Our security practices are designed for healthcare's strictest requirements.
You should use BillSense over a secure connection (HTTPS). Avoid uploading highly sensitive documents on public or untrusted networks if you can help it.
Your choices
You can stop using the service at any time. If you have registered, you may also contact us to ask about access or deletion of your account data, subject to any legal obligations we must meet.
